Chery delivers layout in autonomous driving ecosystem

Shanghai (ZXZC)- Today, at 2018 Global Autonomous Driving Forum held by ZXZC, Huang Yong, Chery’s executive director of intelligent vehicle technology center, delivered a speech about Chery’s layout in intelligent driving area.

Focusing on the theme of “building an autonomous driving ecosystem”, Huang Yong stated that the company's layout in intelligent driving area must cater for the market demands and dedicate to guaranteeing consumers’ security. To some degree, “smart travelling” also incites the industrial reform. This concept had emerged a long time ago, but has been possibly realized until recently. Thanks to the evolvement of internet technology, the in-vehicle terminals could implement mass calculation as mobile platforms.

As to the market valuation of intelligent vehicle industry, Huang Yong predicted that the total value of auto electronic products in Asia-Pacific market will increase to around $112 billion by the end of 2020 and the valuation increases in later stage will be from auto electronic products and intelligent-connected vehicles. Meanwhile, China is the most key part for Asia-Pacific market.

As regard to the governmental support, although Beijing government has released a statement to allow authorized companies to take driverless vehicle test on approved roads, China still lag behind U.S. in law regulation of intelligent vehicle development.

Besides, the embrace from consumers is also significant for the whole process. Some data reveals that around 80% of Chinese consumers would love to accept new technologies. This percentage is higher than in Europe and America.

According to this speech, Chery had announced “3W+” global plan in December last year in response to intelligent driving progress. The company’s existing focus is human-machine interactive technologies. Not only today, but in the next 10 years, the R&D should concentrate on driver experience and safety. The automaker hopes to grasp such technology that in-vehicle sensors can perceive drivers' status under any circumstance and give them necessary instructions.

In the meantime, Huang Yong revealed that Chery will launch a new generation cockpit EXEED TX3.0 this year. The cockpit is equipped with the cutting-edge chips carrying plentiful functions, such as AR navigation, human face recognition and intelligent voice.

In the second half year of 2017, Chery has built partnerships with Baidu, some Tier 1 suppliers and chip manufacturers in the area of autonomous driving platform commercialization. During the cooperation, the automaker came across several bottlenecks, such as high cost of computing chips and risk of network security. Especially, how to ensure drivers’ safety and prevent vehicle accidents are true of extremely crucial tasks for automakers. Chery, collaborating with Baidu, has carried out a great deal of tests in this aspect. In the future, Chery will devote mass resources and energy to improve the autonomous driving reliability.
