China EV insurance registrations for week ending Jul 16: Tesla 10,000, Li Auto 7,700, Nio 3,900, Xpeng 2,100
Between July 1 and 16, Nio sold 8,000 units, Li Auto 16,900, Xpeng 3,500 and Tesla 13,000.
For the week of July 10 to July 16, Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) sold 7,700 units, continuing to top the sales charts of China's new car-making brands, the company said today on Weibo.
Li Auto didn't explain on what basis that weekly sales were tallied, but apparently, they were insurance registrations. The company had suspended sharing those numbers in May, but has since resumed sharing them.
Li Auto's sales last week were down 2.53 percent from the previous week's 7,900 units. As of July 16, the company's sales so far this month stood at 16,900 units, it said.
Cumulative deliveries of Li Auto's L-series models have crossed 200,000 units as of July 15, it said.
Li Auto's three models currently on sale -- Li L7, Li L8 and Li L9 -- are extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs), essentially plug-in hybrids that can be refueled. Its first production model, the Li ONE, has been discontinued.
Li Auto's production capacity at its plant in Changzhou, Jiangsu province, climbed to 8,000 units per week for the first time last week, its founder, chairman, and CEO Li Xiang said in a Weibo post today.
The company's deliveries should stabilize at 8,000 units per week starting this week, depending on production, Li said.
Li Auto will challenge the target of more than 20,000 combined deliveries of the Li L8 and Li L9 this month, and make record deliveries of the Li L7, he said.
The company delivered a record 32,575 vehicles in June, with the Li L7 contributing 13,107, or 40.24 percent.
Nio (NYSE: NIO) sold 3,900 units last week, up 25.81 percent from 3,100 units the week before, according to data shared by Li Auto. The company ranked second in Li Auto's table of last week's sales.

Nio has started deliveries of several new models intensively in the past few months. It launched its new ES6, based on the NT 2.0 platform, in China on May 24, and its deliveries began the same night.
On June 15, Nio launched the ET5 Touring in China, with deliveries starting on June 16.
On June 28, Nio began deliveries of the new ES8, the flagship SUV released on Nio Day 2022 on December 24.
Nio announced yesterday that it will hold Nio Power Day 2023 on July 20 in Beijing, which will showcase the full scope of Nio Power's latest power-up layout plans, product technologies and services.
Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) sold 2,100 units last week, up 75 percent from 1,200 units the week before.
Between July 1 and July 16, Xpeng sold 3,500 units.
Xpeng officially launched its new SUV, the G6, in China on June 29, with deliveries beginning on July 10.
Monthly sales of the G6 are targeted to be at least 10,000 units, said He Xiaopeng, chairman and CEO of Xpeng, in an interview with local media after the June 29 G6 launch.
On July 15, Xpeng held a volume delivery ceremony for the G6 in Guangzhou, where it is headquartered.
Until mass deliveries of the new SUV G6 begin, the P7 series sedan remains Xpeng's main selling model, contributing 60.28 percent of sales in June.
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) sold 10,000 units in China last week, up 212.50 percent from 3,200 units in the previous week.
Between July 1 and 16, Tesla sold 13,000 units in China.
On July 13, several local automotive media outlets reported that Tesla's Shanghai factory saw the 1 millionth Model Y production vehicle roll off the line.
Tesla's Shanghai factory, which began construction on January 7, 2019, and went into operation at the end of 2019, is China's first wholly foreign-owned auto manufacturing project.
Giga Shanghai began delivering Model 3 sedans in January 2020 and Model Y crossovers in January 2021 to local consumers.
The factory, which now has an annual capacity of more than 1 million units, is the largest Tesla factory in the world and also serves as an export hub.
Leapmotor sold 2,600 units last week, up 18.18 percent from 2,200 units the week before.
Between July 1 and July 16, Leapmotor sold 5,100 units.
Zeekr sold 2,300 units last week, unchanged from the previous week. From July 1 to July 16, Zeekr sales were 5,100 units.
Neta sold 1,500 units last week, down 6.25 percent from 1,600 units in the previous week. Between July 1 and July 16, Neta sold 3,300 units.
BYD's (OTCMKTS: BYDDY) premium EV unit Denza was at 2,500 units last week and 5,300 units so far this month.
Changan's EV unit Deepal sold 2,600 units last week and 4,800 so far this month.
Great Wall Motor's premium brand Wey sold 1,100 units last week and 2,400 so far this month.
Huawei-backed Aito was at 900 units last week and 2,200 so far this month.
Among luxury brands, German carmakers Mercedes-Benz and Audi BMW remain in the top three.
Mercedes sold 14,000 units last week, Audi 13,300 and BMW 12,800. So far this month, they have sold 31,700, 27,400 and 24,300 units respectively.
