Nio to launch 2 new models at Nio Day 2022, says William Li
Li previously said Nio will launch five models by the first half of next year, with a total of eight available models by June.
The man at the helm of Nio (NYSE: NIO) has confirmed that the company will launch two new models at the Nio Day 2022 event at the end of this month, in line with what many had previously speculated.
At an event held yesterday to communicate with users, Nio founder, chairman and CEO William Li was asked which model the company will launch at Nio Day 2022.
In his response, Li said:
The question of which car to release is still to be kept secret.
But what we can reveal is that we will be launching two models on Nio Day.
So, after you see that we have unveiled one model at the event, please continue to watch until the next model is released.
Here is a video clip of Li speaking at Saturday's event (in Chinese).
Nio announced on August 28 that Nio Day 2022 will be held in Hefei, Anhui province, where its factories are located.
On December 8, the company announced that the event will be held on December 24 at the Hefei Binhu International Convention and Exhibition Center in Hefei.
Nio's launch event at Nio Day 2022 will start at 19:00 Beijing time on December 24 and last until 21:30.
On November 10, Li said in a conference call following Nio's third-quarter earnings announcement that Nio will launch five new models by the first half of next year, with a total of eight available models by June.
Li did not provide any further details at the time, but what can be expected is that the five new models to be launched by Nio will include the switch of the ES8, ES6 and EC6 to the NT 2.0 platform, as well as two other new models.
Some previous spy photos show that Nio may be testing the ET5 shooting brake version, the EC7 and the new ES8.
It is unclear which two models Nio will launch at the event at the end of this month.
In addition, Li also mentioned that Nio's first phone will not be launched on Nio Day, but will have a special launch event for the product.
The launch of Nio's phone should be held in the first half of next year, Li said.
On November 27, Li mentioned that Nio's cell phone project has teams in Shanghai and Shenzhen and is progressing well.
For those who are currently using Android-powered phones, they may not have to change their phones in a year, Li said late last month.
At the event held yesterday, Li said again that for Nio fans, if they are currently using an Android phone, there is no need to change it now and they can wait for Nio's.
