Tesla sells 52,424 Model Ys and 10,069 Model 3s in China in Nov
From January to November, Model Y retail sales in China increased 121.04 percent year-on-year, while Model 3 sales decreased 7.34 percent year-on-year.
The breakdown of Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) Model Y and Model 3 sales in China is known in a ranking after the US electric vehicle maker's total sales in China in November were announced last week.
The Model Y sold 52,424 units at retail in China in November, placing it No. 1 in the ranking of high-end SUV sales in China with a starting price above 300,000 yuan ($43,170), according to a list released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) on December 9.
Sales of the SUV model increased 126.78 percent from 23,117 units in the same period last year and 264.28 percent from 14,391 units in October.
From January to November, Model Y retail sales in China were 285,927 units, up 121.04 percent from 129,353 units in the same period last year, according to data from the CPCA monitored by CnEVPost.
Tesla has a factory in Shanghai that produces the Model 3 sedan as well as the Model Y. It typically produces vehicles in the first half of each quarter primarily for export and in the second half for local deliveries.
Model 3 retail sales in China in November were 10,069 units, ranking No. 8 on the list of best-selling new energy sedans, according to the CPCA.
SAIC-GM-Wuling's Hongguang Mini EV ranked No. 1 on the list with 31,982 units, BYD Han ranked No. 2 with 31,580 units, and BYD Qin ranked No. 3 with 28,320 units.
From January to November, Model 3 retail sales in China were 111,917 units, down 7.34 percent from 120,788 units in the same period last year.
Data released by the CPCA last week showed that Tesla sold 100,291 China-made vehicles in November, a new single-month high.
This includes 37,798 vehicles exported and 62,493 vehicles delivered in China.
Including exports, the China-made Model Y sold 69,098 vehicles in November and the China-made Model 3 was 31,193.
