Nio today announced a partnership with The Danish Society for Nature Conservation and The Danish Nature Foundation, with the former becoming the first overseas partner in the electric vehicle company's Clean Parks initiative.
William Li, founder, chairman and CEO of Nio, who is currently visiting Europe, and Lars Midtiby, CEO of The Danish Society for Nature Conservation, signed the agreement in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The partnership between The Danish Society for Nature Conservation and Nio is based on a set of shared values that will enhance the protection of the country's nature reserves, an Nio press release states.
Founded in 1911 and headquartered in Copenhagen, the Danish Nature Conservancy is the largest nature conservation and environmental organization in Denmark.
"It is a fundamental prerequisite for our future that we contribute where we can, and with this alliance, Nio gets the opportunity to have an impact where it matters most," said Li.
"With the help of The Danish Society for Nature Conservation's skills and knowledge, we can help create a more sustainable infrastructure and make impact on local community," Li added.
At the Nio Day 2021 event held on December 18 last year, Nio announced the launch of the Clean Parks initiative in addition to the new sedan ET5, aiming to help ecological conservation in environmentally sensitive areas.
Over the next three years, Nio will invest RMB 100 million ($15 million) to support the use of electric vehicles and the construction of clean energy infrastructure in nature reserves around the world, Li said at the time.
On April 22, Nio announced a strategic partnership with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), which will be one of the co-sponsors of Nio's Clean Parks initiative.
On August 15, Nio entered into a formal partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which will also be a co-sponsor of the Clean Parks platform.
In carefully selected nature reserves owned by the Danish Society for Nature Conservation and the Danish Nature Foundation, Nio will help create a clean energy infrastructure while respecting individual ecosystems, the company said.
Other planned initiatives will promote the common goals of creating a sense of community and ensuring that Danes have a positive, lasting relationship with nature by creating better facilities for visitors and animals, according to Nio.
Nio co-founder and president Qin Lihong, Nio Europe vice president Zhang Hui and Nio Denmark managing director Marius Hayler were also present at the ceremony.
