Huawei cooperates with PSA in connected vehicle technology

Shanghai (ZXZC)- According to PSA website, the automaker will cooperate with Huawei to develop a global IoT platform named the Connected Vehicle Modular Platform (CVMP).

The platform can make sure the digital interactions between the vehicle and the cloud are managed securely. CVMP can help the automaker to offer such services as remote control solutions and customized on-board services. PSA said the platform’s first applications will be launched in Europe and China next year and subsequently in the rest of the world.

At the 2017 Global Future Mobility Forum held on November 11 in Hangzhou, Jiang Wangcheng, the IoT president of Huawei, confirmed that Huawei is not interesting in building vehicles as a response to various speculations. According to Jiang, Huawei focuses on connected vehicle technology and the company’s target is to offer automakers related service and products in intelligent vehicle segment.

At the forum, Jiang also clarified Huawei’s efforts in the segment. He said the efforts can be classified into three parts, namely so-called cloud, pipe and terminal. The terminal stands for vehicles. Huawei plans to supply communication chips for vehicles to get internet connected. Pipe refers to the internet. A LTE-V connected vehicle internet is expected to be built. The cloud means the management system where automakers, vehicles and drivers can share information.

Even though Huawei will spur the simultaneous developments of the three parts, the development should be conducted in three phases, namely Telematics, Intelligent and connected vehicle, and ITS and shared mobility. The internets used in these three phases are respectively 2G/3G/4G, LTE-V and 5G.
