Hyundai’s Genesis applied for Chinese trademark registration

Shanghai (ZXZC)-Recently, we learned from the Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce that Hyundai’s luxury vehicle division has submitted its trademark registration application for Genesis. Jie Ni Sai Si, the Chinese transliteration version for Genesis, was the trademark name Hyundai applied for and could be new Chinese name of the brand.

Ever since Genesis was officially announced as a standalone marque in 2015, it has been introduced into American and South Korean market. Currently, the brand only has three sedans, including the G90, G90 and recently launched G70. According to its strategy, Genesis will introduce new SUV models in the near future. At 2017 New York Auto Show in April, Hyundai’s in-house luxury brand unveiled the GV80 SUV concept.

Actually, Genesis has registered four trademarks before. They are GENESIS GV60, GENESIS GV70, GENESIS GV80, and GENESIS GV90. These trademarks are said to be used for an entry crossover SUV, a mid-size SUV, a middle-large sized SUV and a full-size vehicle. According to the product planning released in 2016, GV70 and GV80 will be launched before 2020 and GV60 will be rolled out before 2021. Up to now, the brand has not released any detail about GV90.
