Xpeng CEO denies waiting a week at CATL to get batteries
Xpeng Motors Chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng denied recent media reports that he waited for a week at the office of power battery giant CATL to secure battery supply.
He was quoted by yicai.com on Tuesday as saying that the reports were false and that he had seen the news from the media.
We first noticed the news in a weekend CCTV report focusing on the tight supply of power cells.
The report said CATL shares have been rising in recent days on the back of a battery supply shortage in the new energy vehicle industry, which is the heart of new energy vehicles, as the importance of power batteries cannot be overstated.
"He Xiaopeng personally waited a week at CATL to obtain batteries from CATL", the report said, citing previous reports from unnamed media outlets.
The report also mentioned that CATL Chairman Robin Zeng said at a recent shareholder meeting that customers' recent rush for goods was getting too much for him.
According to Yicai.com on Tuesday, CATL said the company is currently at capacity with orders.
