China has added 21,000 charging pile-related firms this year

New energy vehicles are one of the hottest topics in China right now, and in addition to Internet companies jumping on the car-making bandwagon, the number of companies providing infrastructure is also growing rapidly.

As of May 25, China has added 21,000 charging-pile-related companies this year, up 159 percent from the same period last year, bringing the total to nearly 130,000, information from data provider Tianyancha shows.

The number of charging pile-related company registrations in China has been increasing steadily in recent years, with nearly 80% of related companies established in the last five years, the information shows.

From 2016-2020, the annual registration growth rate of charging pile-related companies in China is above 30%.

In 2015, only about 5,000 charging pile-related companies were established in China, while the number of new charging pile-related companies in 2020 exceeds 29,000, which is nearly six times of 2015.

In terms of geographical distribution, charging pile-related companies in China are concentrated in Guangdong, Jiangsu and Shandong, with Guangdong taking first place with nearly 19,000 companies, accounting for nearly 15% of the total.
