Million Sales Became Watershed of Self-Owned Brand

SHANGHAI January 13th, 2017 ZXZC–The Great Wall has drawn attention with a million of vehicle sales at the beginning of this year, becoming the third auto company to join the rank of “one-million sales club” following SGMW and Changan Automobile. After that, Geely announced to achieve one-million sales target in 2017.

Asself-owned brands are growing rapidly, its size is expanding and its market shares are to be further promoted. Analysts think it is still an important development direction for self-owned brands to grasp market shares and quickly form a certain scale in the next few years.

Self-Owned Brands are Continue to Increase Rapidly

According to data from CAA, accumulated sale of passenger vehicles of self-owned brands in the past 11 months has been 9,251 thousand units, 20.2% increased year over year and 4.6 percent points higher than that of the overall passenger cars. Many self-owned brands hit a history best.

Expect that the Great Wall’s sales broke one million units for the first time, Changan self-owned brands also renewed its annual sales record with 2016 sales reaching 1,284.5 thousand units, a growth of 27.6% year-on-year; while Geely’s sales in 2016 has reached 765.9 thousand units, a year-on-year growth of almost 50%.

An insider told NBD Auto that, on the one hand, sales growth of the overall auto market is quick because of the influence of preferential policies for purchase taxes; on the other hand, self-owned brands have made great improvement in aspects like their quilty, brand influence and so on, especially grasping the opportunities of the market for SUVs, which formed the main reason of the rapid increasing of self-owned brands’ sales.

For example, the Great Wall was contributed by Haval H6 to have its sales break one-million units in 2016. Datas showed that, sales of Haval H6 reached 580.7 thousand units in 2016, increased 55.58% comparing with the previous year, becoming the main force of stimulating the Great Wall’s sales growth.

The Next Step is to Focus on Scales

In the face of the rapid growth of recent years, auto companies with self-owned brands focused on the expansion of scales.

Looking from the sales situation of 2016, self-owned brands have formed their first and second ranks. The first rank contains Changan self-owned brand, the Great Wall and Geely, which has annual sales exceeded a million units; while the second rank involves 350-450 thousand units sales self-owned brands like Beijing brands(including Slogan, Beijing and Wevan series) of BAIC, JAC Auto, GTA passenger cars and so on;

So far, most of the self-owned brands targeted to achieve an annual sale of over one million units by2020.
