Toyota Gosei to build new airbag plant in China’s Guangdong province
Toyota Gosei Co., Ltd., an affiliate of Toyota Motor Corporation, plans to establish a new plant in Guangdong province of South China to consolidate its production network for airbags and steering wheels, which are the main products it produces in the world's largest auto market, according to the company's press release.

Located in Shunde district, Foshan city, the new plant will cover a building area of around 43,000 square meters and house about 280 employees at the start of operations.
The plant will use collaborative robots and automatic guided vehicles to enhance operation efficiency, and adopt solar panels for the sake of environmentally-friendly manufacturing. The status of processes from production to delivery will be grasped in real time with the use of IoT and AI.
The yet-to-be-built plant will be established as a branch plant of Toyoda Gosei Group company Toyoda Gosei Foshan) Auto Parts Co., Ltd., with production expected to start around the summer of 2023.
The advent of the new plant is expected to help Toyota Gosei raise its sales of airbags, for which there are growing demands due to strengthened safety systems in China and the increasing automobile production in South China.
