FAW Toyota to import more Crown models into China
Sino-Japanese joint venture FAW Toyota unveiled the SportCross on Tuesday, which is expected to further enrich the Crown lineup in China.
The carmaker said it will soon import the model for car buyers in the world's largest vehicle market. It will be followed by another model, called the Crown Sedan, the carmaker added.
The models are expected to boost the premium Japanese marque's performance in the country, said analysts.
FAW Toyota now has two models that bear the Crown logo: the Vellfire MPV and the Kluger SUV.
The five-seat SportCross has a hybrid powertrain, featuring a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine. It has a maximum output of 255 kW and a top torque of 551 Nm.
FAW Toyota is also stepping up efforts to improve an independent sales network for the Crown brand.
By the end of this year, the number of its dedicated showrooms will reach 15. The figure is scheduled to hit 40 by 2025.
FAW Toyota is one of the major carmakers in China, with its sales in the first 10 months this year reaching 700,000 units.
