Yutong beats local rivals in European e-bus market

Chinese bus maker Yutong sat atop the list of popular electric bus makers in Europe in 2022, beating local giants including Mercedes and Volvo.

A total of 479 Yutong buses were registered in Europe last year, up 58 percent year-on-year, seizing an 11.5 percent share of the growing market, according to consultancy firm Chatrou CME Solutions.

Sino-British joint venture BYD-ADL ranked second, with 465 registrations in 2022. It was followed by Mercedes at 405.

China's BYD saw 322 registrations, seizing the sixth place. Another Chinese company Golden Dragon ranked 10th, with 133 registrations.

Europe is shifting towards green public transportation. Last year, a total of 4,152 electric buses were registered across the continent, up 26 percent year-on-year.

The UK led the shortlist of countries with e-bus registration in 2022 with a total of 685 electric buses. Germany was second with 581 electric buses, followed by France with 549 units, according to Chatrou CME Solutions.
