Chinese startup Haomo.ai unveiled its DriveGPT on Tuesday, the first of its kind in the global autonomous driving sector.

Drawing inspiration from the popular ChatGPT, the startup introduces the RLHF technology, which stands for Reinforced Learning with Human Feedback, into the generative pre-trained transformer.

By introducing data about situations in which human drivers take over, the model continuously optimizes autonomous vehicles' real-time decision-making ability on roads.

The model has been trained with data of over 40 million kilometers of driving. CEO Gu Weihao said it can enable the vehicles to run more safely and act in a human-like and smoother way.

He said that the new Wey Mocca DHT-PHEV, the first vehicle to be powered by DriveGPT, will be mass produced soon.

Zhang Kai, chairman of Haomo.ai, said the year 2023 will prove crucial in the history of autonomous driving in China as the sector is gaining momentum.

He expects 70 percent of new vehicles sold in 2025 will have pre-installed Level 2 functions. The figure was 29.4 percent in 2022, according to statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Backed up by Great Wall Motors, Haomo.ai was established in 2019. Its autonomous driving solutions have been used in around 20 models. The company said on Tuesday that it has become the supplier for three carmakers.
