Shanghai (ZXZC)- The XPeng P5, the third mass-produced model and first sedan model of XPeng Inc., formally hit the market on Sept. 15. Coming with six trim levels, the P5 is priced between 157,900 yuan ($24,550) and 223,900 yuan ($34,815) after incentives.

Positioned as an A-segment all-electric sedan, the P5 is around 20,000 yuan ($3,110) dearer than the mainstream models of this segment, the AION S and the BYD Qin PLUS.

Aside from new energy vehicle (NEV) models, the XPeng P5 will also vie with such A-segment oil-fueled models as SAIC Volkswagen's Lavida, Dongfeng Nissan's Sylphy, and FAW-Toyota Corolla.

According to XPeng, the P5's E series (460E and 550E) and P series (550P and 600P) are equipped with the XPILOT 3.0 and 3.5 hardware systems respectively. Both the E and P versions come standard with the XPILOT 2.5 software system, and can be updated to the XPILOT 3.0 and 3.5 after customers purchase additional services.

The XPILOT 3.0 hardware package of the E series include 12 ultrasonic radars, 5 millimeter-wave radars, 13 high-definition cameras and a sub-meter-range high-precision positioning unit. The P series not only carries the perception sensors of the E versions, but also features 2 double-prism LiDAR units, which allow for ample safety redundancy, and far more comprehensive and accurate recognition of vehicles, pedestrians, small obstacles on the road, even in tunnels, night, fog, or rainy and snowy conditions.

Boasting longer and wider detection range, the automotive-grade LiDAR technology helps the P5 expand XPeng's Navigation Guided Pilot (NGP) capabilities from highways to city roads, said XPeng.
