GAC Group, GDD, CEPREI team up to boost flying car industry development
Shanghai (ZXZC)- On December 28, 2023, GAC Group, Guangzhou Development District ("GDD"), and The Fifth Electronics Research Institute of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology ("CEPREI") officially inked a trilateral strategic cooperation framework, according to a press release from GAC Group. The collaboration aims to seize opportunities in the low-altitude economy and foster the development of the flying car industry.

Under the agreement, the three entities will jointly drive the advancement of the flying car industry and the low-altitude economy. Key initiatives include establishing a national-level flying car demonstration area, setting up a flying car innovation center, forming a flying car industry alliance, and creating a public service platform for low-altitude economic activities. Moreover, the partners will expand the applications of flying cars, leveraging the industrial and geographical advantages of Guangzhou to implement efficient logistics, high-end commerce, premium tourism, low-altitude public transportation, and smart city solutions in the Guangzhou and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area ("Greater Bay Area"), thus shaping a new paradigm for low-altitude economic development.
This collaboration holds great significance for Guangzhou's ambition to build a world-class autonomous aviation industry cluster and develop the low-altitude economy. With the rapid growth of manned low-altitude aircraft and low-altitude logistics in China, the low-altitude economy is gradually emerging as a new promising domain for industrial development and an economic growth hotspot.
Through this partnership, GAC Group will delve into the future of three-dimensional transportation ecosystems, utilizing its technological expertise in the flying car domain to drive the refinement of the upstream and downstream industry chains for manned low-altitude flight, said the auto group.
GAC Group added it has long been at the forefront of exploring flying cars and the low-altitude economy. At the 2023 GAC Tech Day held on June 26, the company unveiled its first flying car, GOVE (standing for "GAC, On the Go, Vertical, and EV,"), and conducted its global maiden flight. This innovative flying car features an advanced modular design, allowing the free separation or combination of the flight cabin and chassis—a novel solution for three-dimensional travel. The GOVE made a stunning appearance at this event.
Looking ahead, GAC Group plans to launch a flying car demonstration operation plan by 2027, creating a model for intercity three-dimensional mobility in 2-3 cities within the Greater Bay Area. This ambitious initiative aims to realize a full-chain three-dimensional intelligent travel service encompassing "multiple stations - ground transportation - air transportation."
