Great Wall Motor’s new energy vehicle sales zoom up 75.77% YoY in Q1-Q3 2023
Shanghai (ZXZC)- In September 2023, Great Wall Motor ("GWM") sold a total of 121,632 new vehicles, marking a year-on-year jump of 29.89%. When considering the cumulative figures for the first nine months of 2023, the company achieved sales of 864,045 vehicles, which climbed 7.69% over the previous year.
It is noteworthy that GWM's new energy vehicle (NEV) sales totaled 170,346 units for the first three quarters, surging 75.77% from a year ago. The automaker said NEVs accounted for 12.64%, 21.86%, and 22.37% of its total car sales in the first, second, and third quarter of this year, respectively, showing a continuous rising momentum in proportion.
GWM's export volume soared 89.45% year on year to 211,696 units in the Jan.-Sept. period, 98.49% of which were contributed by the models priced at and above 150,000 yuan.
The SUV-dedicated HAVAL brand recorded an impressive sales performance for September, with a total of 73,766 units sold, marking a remarkable year-on-year jump of 36.7%. This surge in sales can be attributed to HAVAL's strategic focus on intelligent new energy vehicles. In the third quarter of this year alone, HAVAL sold 203,256 new vehicles, representing a substantial quarter-on-quarter growth of 22%.
During the third quarter, HAVAL made significant strides in the off-road segment, unveiling the 2024 HAVAL Big Dog and the all-new HAVAL H5, which has been described as a "large, versatile, and rugged SUV." Furthermore, the highly anticipated HAVAL Menglong is set to hit the market on October 10th.The WEY brand sold 2,548 vehicles last month, resulting in a sales volume of 14,818 units for the third quarter and 32,968 units for the first three quarters of this year. The six-seater SUV, the Blue Mountain DHT-PHEV, has garnered significant attention since its launch, accumulating a total sales figure exceeding 24,000 units. During the Chengdu Motor Show 2023, the WEY Gāoshān DHT-PHEV officially began accepting ore-orders and will go on sale in the near future.

The ORA brand achieved sales of 10,021 vehicles in September, marking the fifth consecutive month with its sales exceeding 10,000 units and representing a year-on-year jump of 31.77%. However, the brand's year-to-date sales still fell 8.36% over a year ago to 77,641 units.
TANK, the brand renowned for its off-road vehicles, sold 18,054 vehicles, marking a year-on-year surge of 43.15%. The TANK 500 Hi4-T and the 2024 TANK 300 have been key drivers of this success, contributing to the total sales figure of 104,545 units (+17.22% YoY) in the first nine months of the year. Additionally, TANK expanded its lineup with the launch of the TANK 400 Hi4-T, a medium-to-large urban multi-functional off-road SUV, which hit the market on September 25. Great Wall Pick-up logged a sales volume of 17,197 vehicles in September, representing a slight year-on-year rise of 0.51%. Within this segment, the GWM POER series achieved sales of 12,200 vehicles last month.
