During the second quarter of this year, net profit attributable to Baidu (non-GAAP) stood at 8 billion yuan, surging 44% from a year ago. The core businesses of Baidu, including Baidu AI Cloud, intelligent driving, and user products, all exhibited steadfast growth during the period.
In the field of intelligent driving, Baidu's autonomous ride-hailing service platform (Robotaxi), Apollo Go, displayed impressive growth. In Q2, Apollo Go provided 714,000 ride services, which shot up 149% year over year in volume. According to Baidu, Apollo Go has cumulatively offered to the public 3.3 million rides by June 30, 2023.
In June, Apollo Go accomplished a significant achievement as it received the first batch of the permits for fully unmanned commercial Robotaxi pilot operation from Shenzhen's Pingshan District. Currently, Apollo Go has been approved to provide fully autonomous ride-hailing services to the public in Wuhan, Chongqing, Beijing, and Shenzhen. Further enhancing its progress, Apollo Go secured the first batch of the licenses issued by authorities in Shanghai's Pudong New Area in July, enabling open-road testing of fully autonomous unmanned vehicles.
