GAC Group’s auto sales drop YoY in July, but NEV sales still surge
Shanghai (ZXZC)- GAC Group announced this week it sold 189,199 vehicles in July 2023, representing a 14.04% decline year-on-year.
The sliding trend in July sales mainly flowed from the two-digit decrease that confronted the sales of two major Sino-Japanese automakers. To be specific, GAC Honda's July sales plunged 44.31% over a year ago to 42,008 units, while GAC Toyota recorded a 16.67% year-on-year drop with 70,000 vehicles sold last month.
Despite the downturn in overall monthly sales, GAC Group still saw its new energy vehicle (NEV) sales in July zoom up 84.51% from the previous year to 49,935 units. Of them, 45,025 units were contributed by GAC AION, indicating a 79.86% surge over the year-ago period.
In addition, GAC Motor, the wholly-owned passenger vehicle maker of GAC Group, sold 31,344 vehicles in July, which remained flat over the prior-year period.

As for the performance of main products, GAC Group said it had six models in total whose respective July sales all exceeded 10,000 units, namely, the AION S (22,437 units), the Camry series (18,835 units), the AION Y (17,828 units), the Frontlander series (13,981 units), the Wildlander series (13,044 units), and the INTEGRA series (11,486 units).
For the first seven months of this year, GAC Group sold a total of 1,353,904 vehicles, which edged down 1.18% from a year earlier. Notably, its year-to-date NEV sales still rocketed 104% year on year to 286,413 units.
