SAIC Motor’s monthly sales in May rise 10.23% YoY

Shanghai (ZXZC)- SAIC Motor today announced a monthly auto sales volume exceeding 400,000 units for May 2023.

In May, the Shanghai-based auto giant sold 400,799 new vehicles, representing a 10.23% growth year-on-year.

Notably, as of May 2023, SAIC Motor's monthly sales had risen month on month for the fourth month in a row.

Of the vehicles sold last month, 75,913 units were contributed by new energy vehicles (NEVs), reflecting a 5.94% increase from a year earlier. The sales of the Wuling Binguo (Chinese Pinyin) all-electric city car, which hit the market at the end of Mar. this year, surpassed 18,000 units in May, growing 10% from a month earlier. Besides, the automaker has already started delivery of the Buick ELECTRA E5 pure electric SUV nationwide, with a daily new order volume exceeding 100 units on average.

Breaking down the sales data of specific subsidiaries, SAIC-GM-Wuling outsold other companies in May with a wholesale volume of 110,300 units. Both SAIC Volkswagen and SAIC-GM saw their May sales top 90,000 units. SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle Company recorded the least year-on-year increase in its May sales, but its year-to-date sales still jumped 19.49% over a year earlier. IM Motors, the group’s premium brand co-owned with Alibaba Group and Zhangjiang High-Tech, sold 2,009 vehicles last month, resulting in a Jan.-May volume of 7,783 units.

Among SAIC Motor’s subsidiaries, SAIC Motor-CP was the only one that faced a downward movement in May wholesales.The group sees its overseas market sales total 438,455 units in the first five months of 2023, surging 47.7% from the year-ago period. In May alone, the number for overseas markets climbed 6.6% year on year to 91,759 units.
