Car and City: Huawei-backed AITO sees 23.93% MoM hike in Apr. 2023 auto registrations

Beijing (ZXZC)- SERES Auto, Chinese ICT giant Huawei’s first official automaking partner, saw its monthly auto registrations climb 23.93% from the previous month to 4,418 vehicles in April 2023, according to the data compiled by the ZXZC Auto Research Institute (GARI).

Owning two auto brands, namely, SERES and AITO, SERES Auto is affiliated to SERES Group, which was formerly known as Chongqing Sokon Industry Group. The two auto brands both have Huawei as their partner.

In terms of registrations of individual models, in the fourth month of 2023, there were only two SERES SF5s registered across China, which were all registered in Shenyang, the provincial capital of Liaoning Province. 

As to AITO-branded models, the AITO M5 (REEV version) saw its monthly registration volume come in at 1,612 vehicles in the past month, which surged 56.66% from a month ago and also made the M5 REEV the best-selling AITO model in the past month. In April 2023, there were two cities whose M5 REEV registrations exceed 100 units, namely, Chongqing (162 units) and Shenzhen (103 units).

Meanwhile, the pure-electric variant of the M5, the M5 EV, achieved a total monthly registration of 1,355 vehicles last month, representing a 20.77% jump from the earlier month. Among all cities in China, Shanghai again ranked the highest on the list regarding the M5 EV registrations, which stood at 181 units, while the second-place occupant, Chongqing, recorded a registration volume of 116 units. 

In addition, April registrations of AITO’s higher-end model, the M7, summed up to 1,449 units, compared to the 1,410 units in the past month. With 144 M7s registered, Chongqing once again led the country in M7 registrations and was the only city with over 100 M7s registered. Chengdu and Shenzhen came after Chongqing at the second place with both of them posting registrations of 60 M7s in the month.

According to data compiled by the GARI, a total of 4,416 AITO-branded vehicles were registered across China in April 2023, indicating a 24.1% spike month-on-month. The usual winners, Chongqing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, all cracked the top 3 rankings in regards to AITO vehicle registrations last month, but Chongqing was way ahead of other cities.
