Honda’s premium auto brand, Acura, is reportedly retrieving from the Chinese market in June 2022, a local media outlet reported on March 4th.

A source inside an Acura dealership disclosed that the only existing Acura dealership in Beijing would be taken over by MacLaren soon after it closed down. Moreover, another Acura display room in the city will be replaced by Great Wall Motor’s premium EV brand, Shalong.
Additionally, GAC Honda will be responsible for the aftersales for existing Acura owners after the brand leaves the country, the Acura dealer added.
In fact, the high-end Japanese brand has already suspended its import and sedan business operations in China. Currently, there are only two Acura models in the Chinese market, both SUVs, sold by GAC Acura.
On the other hand, the rumor about Acura’s withdrawal is not entirely uncalled for. In 2021, GAC Acura sold a total of 6,554 vehicles, nearly halved from a year ago. In comparison, the brand sold 157,408 vehicles in the same year in the US, increasing 14.9% year on year.
The industry viewed its underachievement as an inevitable result caused by its lack of marketing strategy and branding.
