Beijing (ZXZC)- SERES Auto, Chinese ICT giant Huawei’s first official automaking partner, registered 3,271 vehicles in the first month of 2023, representing a 70.11% plunge month-over-month, according to the data compiled by ZXZC Auto Research Institute (GARI).

Owning two auto brands, namely, SERES and AITO, SERES Auto is affiliated to SERES Group, which was formerly known as Chongqing Sokon Industry Group. The two auto brands all have Huawei as their partner.

The downturn in January auto sales should be considered universal across China’s auto market, as both the New Year holiday and the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday all fell in the month, leaving not enough workdays for automakers and consumers to facilitate transactions.

In January 2023, there were 10 SERES SF5s registered across China, which is six unit less than a month ago. Among cities in China, Shenyang, the provincial capital of Liaoning Province, saw the most SF5s registered (4 units) in the past month. Aside from that, Jiaxing registered 3 units, while Harbin, Hangzhou, and Kaifeng registered 1 SF5 each last month.

As to the AITO brand, the AITO M5 (REEV version) recorded a monthly registration volume of 1,211 vehicles in January 2023, down 69.83% over a month ago. With 76 M5s registered last month, Shenzhen sits at the top of the list among all cities, which is followed by Chongqing, who saw 65 M5s registered.

On the other hand, January registrations of the pure-electric variant of the M5, the M5 EV, encountered a 74.08% month-over-month drop, which came in at 642 units. Among all cities in China, Wuhan was the only one with a monthly registration of over 100 M5 EVs (109 units).

As to AITO’s higher-end model, the M7, a 68.27% month-on-month plummet challenged the model’s January registration volume, which stood at 1,408 units. With 82 M7s registered, Shenzhen was crowned the top 1 city regarding M7 registrations in the month. Notably, Shanghai, the winner city in the previous month’s registration results, failed to enter the top 5 list in January.

Judging from statistics of the AITO brand alone, a total of 3,261 vehicles were registered across China in the first month of 2023. In accord with the results of each individual AITO model, the top three cities with the most AITO vehicles registered in January 2023 were Shenzhen (177 units), Wuhan (160 units), and Chongqing (120 units). Whereas Beijing, the constant member on the top ten cities list, did not make the cut last month.
