Great Wall Motor ("GWM") sold 1,067,523 vehicles in 2022, marking the seventh year in a row to record an annual sales volume exceeding 1 million units.

In overseas markets, the company sold 173,180 vehicles through 2022, indicating a 21.28% year-on-year jump.

Great Wall Motor issues price rise on WEY-branded vehicles

On April 12th, Great Wall Motor announced that its WEY brand would see a price increase on its coffee lineup by 5,000 yuan-12,000 yuan depending on trims.

As same as its previous price increases, Great Wall Motor explained that the adjustments this time are also results of the price hike in raw materials, chips, and core component parts. The price increment would come to effect on April 15th, leaving a three-day grace period for potential consumers.

Great Wall Motor's 300,000th POER pickup rolls off assembly line

On May 8, Great Wall Motor saw the 300,000th vehicle of the POER series roll off the production line, making POER the first premium pickup marque in China to hit such production milestone.

Meanwhile, the trailer version was put onto the market for both POER Commercials and Individuals with a price 2,000 yuan dearer than the all-wheel-drive AT version.

Great Wall Motor to launch smart active suspension project in China's Wuxi

Great Wall Motor had signed an agreement for an intelligent core parts project, which will involve a total investment of 3.1 billion yuan, the Baoding-based automaker announced on May 10 via its WeChat account.

Under the project, facilities that integrate functions of R&D and manufacturing of intelligent active suspension system would be built under the operation of Exquisite Automotive Systems Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of GWM.

Great Wall Motor pauses new orders of ORA Black Cat, White Cat for higher-end models

On May 11th, in a response to investors, China's major automaker Great Wall Motor disclosed its decision to withhold new orders of the Black Cat and the White Cat models under the ORA brand.

The automaker further illustrated that on one hand, the company currently has oozing backlog orders on hand due to the industry-wide crimped raw material supply. At the same time, Great Wall Motor is gathering its resources to promote new and more premium ORA models in regards of market debut and mass production.

Great Wall Motor's TANK 300 debarks in Saudi Arabia

Great Wall Motor's signature TANK brand had officially debarked overseas with the TANK 300 hitting the market in Saudi Arabia on July 3rd.

The Chinese automaker held a grand event at the KAFD in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, celebrating the launch of the TANK 300 while showcasing the TANK 500. Great Wall Motor said that the group's overseas sales volume had reached the one-million-unit milestone.

GWM's ORA Ballet Cat starts at 193,000 yuan

The ORA Ballet Cat, a new small-sized BEV model under Great Wall Motor's ORA brand, formally hit the market on July 12. Coming with four trim levels, the new model is priced at 193,000 yuan to 223,000 yuan after subsidies.

The retro-inspired Ballet Cat features horseshoe-like headlights and chrome-plated front bumper.

Great Wall Motor's general manager resigns

General manager of Great Wall Motor, Wang Fengying, resigned from her current position due to work adjustments, and her position would be filled by Mu Feng, another executive of the company.

According to Great Wall Motor's announcement issued on July 24, its board of directors had received a written resignation report from Wang Fengying, and approved the notion of appointing Mu Feng as her successor. After the adjustments, Wang Fengying would continue to work in the strategic management of the company. 

Great Wall Motor enters Hong Kong, Macau via cooperation with Inchcape Group

On Aug. 2, Great Wall Motor inked a proxy authorization agreement with car dealership Inchcape Group to explore the new energy vehicle market of Hong Kong and Macau.

New energy vehicles have great potential in the Hong Kong and Macau markets. Great Wall Motor planned to break into the markets with its new energy vehicle brand ORA's right rudder vehicle models.

Great Wall Motor teams up with Emil Frey to distribute cars in Europe

In early Aug., Great Wall Motor signed an agreement with Emil Frey, a European car dealer, to distribute ORA and WEY-branded vehicles in Europe.

According to GWM's press release, both parties would co-work on marketing business for the first two models to enter the German market, the WEY Coffee 01 plug-in hybrid SUV and the ORA Good Cat all-electric car.

Great Wall Holdings to build semiconductor manufacturing base in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province

On Aug. 16th, Great Wall Holdings inked a contract to build the headquarters and a perovskite base for UtmoLight, the automaker’s spin-off company, as well as a manufacturing base for HYCET Technology's 3rd-generation semiconductors in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province.

The automaker signed an agreement with local authorities of Wuxi's Xishan Economic & Technological Development Zone to pour 3 billion yuan in the UtmoLight project. The new headquarters and perovskite innovation industrial base would take up 156 mu of land (Chinese acres), housing the world's first GW-grade perovskite photovoltaic module and BIPV production line. The production line of perovskite quantum dot would feature a production capacity of 100 tonnes per year. The automaker expected to see an annual production value of 2.5 billion yuan after the base become up and running.

Great Wall Motor's Haval brand to fully halt oil-fueled vehicle sales by 2030

Haval, an SUV-dedicated brand of Great Wall Motor, would ban the sales of oil-fueled vehicles by 2030, GWM said on August 22 at the new energy strategy launch conference held for the Haval brand.

At the same time, Li Xiaorui, general manager of Haval brand, revealed that new energy vehicles would account for 80% of the brand's overall auto sales by 2025.

Great Wall Holdings, Delong Group, Liben Energy inks agreement to build hydrogen ecosystem

On Sept. 13, Great Wall Holdings Group Limited, Shanghai Delong Steel Group (“Delong Group), and Tianjin Liben Energy Technology Co., Ltd. ("Liben" is Chinese Pinyin) signed a strategic cooperation agreement to jointly build a global-leading hydrogen industrial ecosystem, according to a post on WeChat account of Great Wall Motor. 

Under the agreement, the three parties would conduct all-round strategic cooperation in such fields as hydrogen equipment, hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, production and transportation of gaseous and liquid hydrogen, hydrogen-refueling station construction, zero-carbon logistics, photovoltaic power generation, and carbon trade.

Great Wall Motor inks memo for KD assembly in Kazakhstan

Great Wall Motor had inked a KD assembly (knocked-down) cooperation intention memorandum with the company's partner in Kazakhstan, Astana Motors, the automaker announced on Sept. 22 via its WeChat account, marking a milestone in the Chinese automaker's deployment in the local market.

The memorandum laid a solid foundation for a deeper cooperation between the two sides is also another important breakthrough for Great Wall Motor to steadily advance its globalization strategy. Through KD assembly, Great Wall Motor would further enhance its competitiveness in the Kazakhstani market. It would also bring affordable cars to local consumers and stimulate the potential of the local auto market.

Great Wall Motor's Haval puts first NEV model onto market

On Sept. 28, Haval, an SUV-dedicated brand of Great Wall Motor, put the third-generation Haval H6 DHT-PHEV onto the market as its first new energy vehicle model.

Coming with three trim levels, the new PHEV model features a post-subsidy price range of 159,800 yuan to 173,800 yuan.

Great Wall Motor puts HAVAL H6 PHEV onto Thai market

Great Wall Motor saw its HAVAL H6 PHEV officially go on sale in Thailand on October 7, according to the automaker’s announcement.

The model hit the Chinese market on September 28, with Thailand being its first overseas stop. According to Great Wall Motor, the H6 PHEV would be delivered to local Thai customers from mid-November. 

Great Wall Motor to set up new semiconductor company

Great Wall Motor announced on October 22 its plan to incorporate a semiconductor joint venture which would involve a registered capital of 50 million yuan.

To be named Xindong Semiconductor Technology Co., Ltd., the company would have three listed shareholders, namely Great Wall Motor, Wei Jianjun (chairman of Great Wall Motor), and Wensheng Technology (Tianjin) Co., Ltd. (a subsidiary directly held by Wei Jianjun), which would subscribe for 10 million yuan, 5 million yuan, and 35 million yuan of the registered capital, respectively.

Great Wall Motor announces foray into Philippine market

On October 26, Great Wall Motor reached a partnership with major Philippine auto dealership, Luxuriant Automotive Group Inc., to promote its vehicles in the Philippine market.

The partnership specifies that building on the traits of the local auto market, the two companies will jointly explore innovative distribution channels and the service models depending on Philippine users’ demands. With users in mind, the duo would introduce Great Wall Motor’s cutting-edge technologies, products, and ideas to the local market, bringing automotive products and services with higher quality to promote the Philippine auto industry transformation and upgrading.

Great Wall Motor partners with China Mobile for automotive informatization advancement

Great Wall Motor on October 26 inked a strategic cooperation agreement with telecom service provider, China Mobile, for informatization advancement in the automotive fields.

According to the agreement, the two parties would conduct in-depth cooperation in intelligent connectivity, high-precision positioning, C-V2X, big data, onboard content, and other intelligent connected vehicle aspects.
