In the recently ended 2022, Chinese automobile group, Chery Holding, laid out several ambitious development trails as part of the efforts to land a stronger foothold in the new era of the automotive industry.

Attributable to a slew of new vehicle models hitting the market during the past year, Chery Holding saw its annual sales volume and revenue both reach record’s high. Besides, the auto group initiated its “Yaoguang 2025” technological development strategy as well. Under the guidelines of the strategy, Chery Holding plans to invest more than 100 billion yuan in R&D while synchronously deploying six R&D centers in Wuhu, Shanghai, North America, South America, Europe, and Central Asia.

Chery Holding sees 2022 annual sales, revenue hit new high
Chery Holding announced on January 6 its sales volume came in at 105,483 vehicles in Dec. 2022, which resulted in an annual sales volume of 1,232,727 vehicles (+28.2% YoY).
In the past year, the automaker's remarkable performance brought the company over 200 billion yuan in annual revenue, which is the highest-ever number in Chery's 25 years of development.
NavInfo-backed AutoChips to build auto chip lab with Chery Auto
NavInfo-backed automotive chip supplier AutoChips has reached cooperation with Chery Auto to jointly build a lab for automotive chips, NavInfo announced on December 30.
In a bid to accelerate the R&D progress of auto-grade processors, AutoChips and Chery Auto will use the joint lab as the stepping stone to carry out cooperation in such fields as automotive chip technology, products, market development, and industrial ecosystem integration.
Chery’s EXEED Yaoguang SUV makes global debut
Chery Holding’s EXEED brand officially launched its first strategic model in accordance to the automaker’s 2.0 development approach, namely, the EXEED Yaoguang, on December 27.
The significant model is the first production model manufactured at EXEED’s Qingdao super intelligent factory, and is also the first vehicle model that rides on Chery’s M3X Mars Architecture 2.0. Along with the debut, blind order of the Yaoguang kicked off at the same time, with a preorder price range of 170,000 yuan-220,000 yuan.
CATL, Chery Holding begin all-around strategic cooperation
CATL and Chery Holding Group signed a framework agreement on Dec. 14 to carry out all-around strategic cooperation on such fields as products, business affairs, marketing promotion, and business information resources, according to a post on CATL's WeChat account.
Under the agreement, the two companies will continue the collaboration on passenger vehicle battery supply and relevant technologies. In addition, the duo will jointly explore areas like public transportation, battery swapping, and the integration of batteries, electric motors and electric control units in such domains as bus, logistics vehicle, heavy-duty truck, and electric ship.
Chery Holding inaugurates super factory in Qingdao
On November 18, Chery Holding celebrated the inauguration of its super factory located in Jimo District, Qingdao, Shandong Province, and witnessed the factory’s first complete vehicle roll off line.
The factory is also the first one that has been completed and achieved mass production among all Chery Holding’s planned super factory projects in China.
Chery Auto eyes foray into UK market in 2026
China’s major automaker Chery Auto intends to foray into the British market in 2026 with several plug-in hybrid and battery-electric models, said Charlie Zhang Shengshan, executive vice president of Chery International.
The vice president said that before the company’s entry to the UK market, Chery Auto will firstly establish its presence in other countries in Europe, as well as make its reentrance to the Australian market.
Chery Holding launches Yaoguang 2025 strategy
Chery Holding showcased its GENE electric concept car and its new technological development strategy, Yaoguang 2025, at the Yaoguang 2025 Chery Technology Day on September 16.
On the automaker’s 25th anniversary, Chery Holding introduced and put in motion its innovative technology development strategy, which consists of four core targeted fields.
Chery Holding to build auto part industrial base in Wuhu, Anhui Province
On August 22nd, Chery Holding’s subsidiary, Wuhu Chery Technology Co., Ltd. (Chery Technology), inked a cooperation agreement to build a joint venture for automotive intelligent electronics in Wuhu, Anhui Province.
Per the agreement, Chery Technology and Anhui Shengna Technology will set up a joint venture with an initial investment of 1 billion yuan in constructing an intelligent electronics industrial base in Wanzhi District, Wuhu. The facility is expected to start production by the end of June 2023.
Chery OMODA 5 hits market, priced at RMB92,900-RMB126,900
On July 12th, Chery Holding officially put the OMODA 5, the automaker’s first global-oriented model, onto the market.
The OMODA 5 comes with seven trim levels with a price range of RMB92,900-RMB126,900. With the younger generation as targeted clientele, the automaker presented OMODA 5 buyers with lifelong free maintenance service.
Chery Holding, Anhui Province launch automotive industrial research institute
On February 26th, Chery Holding and the provincial government of Anhui Province officially inaugurated their joint Anhui research institute of new energy vehicles and intelligent connected vehicles.
The research institute is of great importance to Chery Holding’s intelligent and electric transportation, with a series of designated labs setting the foundation for Chery’s own “Nokia Bell Laboratory”.
