China’s Jan.-Nov. 2022 deliveries of imported passenger vehicles dip 18.5% YoY

Shanghai (ZXZC)- For the first eleven months of 2022, there were 701,182 imported passenger vehicles (PVs) delivered across China, representing an 18.5% decrease year-over-year, according to Sinomach Automobile Co., Ltd., China's largest dealer of imported vehicles.

To be specific, the Jan.-Nov. imported PV deliveries were composed of 319,437 cars, 355,391 SUVs, and 26,354 MPVs, which fell 15.9%, 21.5%, and 5.8% from the previous year, respectively.

As for monthly performance, the deliveries of imported PVs in China reached 57,548 units in Nov. 2022, falling 10.4% year on year due to the decrease in the sales of SUVs and MPVs. Nevertheless, the sales of imported cars still rose 3.5% from a year ago to 27,892 units last month.

Of the imported PVs delivered in the Jan.-Nov. period, 631,925 units were under luxury car brands, reflecting an 18.4% year-on-year downward movement. Luxury brands hereby consist of Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW, Porsche, Mercedes Benz, Jaguar, Cadillac, Lexus, Land Rover, Maserati, MINI, Acura, smart, Tesla, Volvo, Infiniti, etc.

Ultra-luxury brands, including Aston Martin, Ferrari, Bentley, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce, McLaren, etc., saw their combined imported PV deliveries in China edge down 2.7% over a year earlier to 605 units in Nov. mainly because of the decrease made by Bentley, resulting in a Jan.-Nov. volume of 7,436 units (+7.1% YoY).

Among the top 10 brands by Nov. sales of imported PVs in China, there were only three brands achieving a year-on-year growth, namely, Lexus, Porsche, and MINI. Of them, Porsche was the fastest-growing one. Audi ranked 5th, but it was confronted with the biggest year-over-year decrease.

In terms of the Jan.-Nov. imported PV deliveries in China, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW were still the top 3 brands. Despite the overall downturn, the year-to-date imported PV deliveries still grew year on year for both Porsche and Toyota brands. Subaru failed to appear on the top 10 brand list with its No. 10 place replaced by Volkswagen.
