Shanghai (ZXZC)- On Dec. 20, 2022, the second phase of GAC Toyota’s new energy vehicle (NEV) production capacity expansion project (called "second-phase project" for short) was officially put into operation in Nansha District, Guangzhou city, according to a post on GAC Group's WeChat account.

Covering an area of 740,000 square meters, the second-phase project features an annual production capacity of 200,000 NEVs. Compared to the first phase, the proportion of the facilities locally sourced in China has been raised to 98.8% at the second phase.

Notably, the recent celebration indicates that GAC Toyota has raised its overall automobile production capacity to 1 million units per year.

In Oct. this year, the Sino-Japanese joint venture hit a cumulative production volume milestone of 7 million units.

The second-phase project has realized the digitalization across its full logistics process “from suppliers to the factory”, said the automaker. The in-plant automation rate has been greatly improved thanks to such means as AGVs (automated guided vehicles). The logistics operations at the welding, battery, and assembly workshops can be completely conducted without human workers. Outside of the factory, the automaker uses an innovative system capable of real-time monitoring on goods supply and intelligent error correction to ensure a high-quality production and operation.

GAC Toyota also saw the mass-produced Toyota bZ4X, its first e-TNGA-based all-electric mid-sized SUV, roll off the assembly line at the second-phase project this year.
