Beijing (ZXZC)- On June 27th, the municipal government of Changchun, Jilin Province held a press conference stating the city’s ambition to build a thousand-billion-yuan auto industry base with global competitiveness.

Earlier at the end of 2021, Changchun authorities proposed to build the city into an international auto town among other aspects. 

To be specific, the international auto town will be built around Changchun’s mainstay auto businesses, FAW Group, and CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles. The two companies have successively won Changchun several automotive and railway “firsts” in China. 

Changchun currently houses five complete vehicle makers, namely FAW-Volkswagen, FAW Hongqi, FAW Bestune, FAW Jiefang, and SFTM Changchun Fengyue. The companies help Changchun maintain its leading position regarding manufacturing capability. 

In the past years, the city helped facilitate several programs to inject new blood into its local auto industry, including the FAW Hongqi Fanrong Factory, FAW Jiefang J7 Intelligent Manufacturing Base, and FAW Bestune NAT production capacity expansion. The movements attracted multiple major projects to settle in the city, such as Audi PPE, BYD power battery, and Fulscience’s industrial park. 

On June 15th, the city passed a development plan for the international auto town. By 2025, Changchun aims to support the aforementioned six complete vehicle bases to grow stronger, cultivate five hundred ten-billion-yuan level auto parts suppliers, and build one world-class rail equipment manufacturing base.
