Shanghai’s Jiading District to boost car sales by offering subsidies

Shanghai (ZXZC)- Jiading District in east China's Shanghai recently issued a slew of policies for spurring car shopping demands, one of which is to offer car buyers subsidies.

Automakers in the district is encouraged to launch sales campaigns and offer consumers discounts, as stated in a document issued on June 1 by Jiading District Government. Correspondingly, individual consumers who buy automobiles in Jiading and get them registered in Shanghai will be given a subsidy of 10,000 yuan ($1,500) for a car priced below 150,000 yuan ($22,460) or 20,000 yuan ($3,000) for a car priced at 150,000 yuan or above.

The cash incentives are applicable to both new energy vehicles (“NEVs”) and oil-fueled vehicles.

In addition, governmental departments and state-run enterprises are encouraged to purchase NEVs when they find replacements for to-be-scrapped government cars and special-purpose vehicles, or expand fleets with all-new ones.

Leading players in the automotive industry have gathered in Jiading District to promote the development of electrification, automation, network connection and sharing for the industry. These include SAIC Motor, Volvo, NIO, Li Auto, Horizon Robotics, Shanghai Hydrogen Propulsion Technology, etc.

Jiading District has also gained nationwide leading advantages in providing supporting facilities for the automobile industry, with major projects such as China's first pilot zone for intelligent connected vehicles (ICVs) approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and China's first fixed hydrogen refueling station with the longest record of safe operation period, etc.
