Shanghai (ZXZC)- SAIC-GM-Wuling (“SGMW”), General Motors' joint venture with Chinese partners SAIC Motor and Guangxi Automobile Group, announced on May 17 it has accumulated over 700,000-unit retail sales of the Hongguang MINI EV electric car.

Retail sales of the Hongguang MINIEV reached 24,908 units last month, the automaker said, quoting data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA). As of April 2022, the mini car has been honored the best-selling new energy vehicle (NEV) model in China for 20 months in a row.

The Hongguang MINIEV's lineup was expanded with the special edition GAMEBOY hitting the market on April 8, 2022. Coming with four trim levels, the new edition is priced between 55,800 yuan ($8,215) and 69,800 yuan ($10,275).

Unlike the Macaron edition previously launched, the GAMEBOY adopts a closed-off grille, which is flanked by LED headlights on both sides.

The GAMEBOY measures 2,997mm long, 1,493mm wide, and 1,604mm tall with a wheelbase that spans 2,010mm.

In March 2022, SGMW said it would raise the official guiding prices of the Hongguang MINIEV, the Wuling NanoEV, and the Baojun KiWi EV by 4,000-8,000 yuan ($590-1,180) due to factors like the continuous hike in upstream raw materials price. The price adjustment took effect on March 24.
