China imported PV deliveries drop 14.4% YoY in Jan.-Feb. 2022

Shanghai (ZXZC)- For the first two months of 2022, there were 130,488 imported passenger vehicles (PVs) delivered across China, representing a 14.4% decrease year-over-year, according to Sinomach Automobile Co., Ltd., China's largest dealer of imported vehicles.

To be specific, the Jan.-Feb. deliveries of imported cars and SUVs dipped 15.8% and 15.9% respectively from the previous year to 58,683 and 66,093 units, while the MPV segment posted a 39.2% increase with 5,712 vehicles delivered.

As for monthly performance, the deliveries of imported PVs dwindled 24.2% from a year earlier to 41,591 units, including 20,185 cars (-22.2% YoY), 19,926 SUVs (-27.3% YoY), and 1,480 MPVs (-3.9% YoY).

Of the imported PVs delivered in the first two months, 118,412 units were under luxury car brands, representing a 13.5% year-on-year downward movement. Luxury brands consist of Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW, Porsche, Mercedes Benz, Jaguar, Cadillac, Lexus, Land Rover, Maserati, MINI, Acura, smart, Tesla, Volvo, Infiniti, etc.

Eight of the top 10 auto brands by Feb. deliveries of imported PVs posted a year-on-year decrease partly due to chip crunch, Spring Festival holiday, and the pandemic factor. Of them, the second runner-up BMW faced the steepest decline of over 40%. Despite the drop in overall sales, both MINI and Toyota still scored a double-digit growth compared to the year-ago period.

In terms of Jan.-Feb. imported PV deliveries, the top 3 brands were Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW. Among the top 10 brands, Mercedes-Benz, MINI, and Toyota were the only three posting year-over-year rise. With a 53.5% increase, Toyota was the fastest-growing one.
