BYD scores 125% YoY surge in Jan. 2022 sales, but oil-fueled vehicle sales tumble 90%

Shanghai (ZXZC)- With 95,422 new vehicles sold, BYD Company Limited (called “BYD” for short) boasted a 125.05% year-on-year hike in the first month of 2022.

The robust sales growth entirely owed to the 361.73% year-on-year increase achieved by BYD's new energy vehicle (NEV) business. The sales of new energy passenger vehicles surged 367.65% to 92,926 units last month, which were almost 50/50 contributed by all-electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid vehicle segments respectively.

Nevertheless, the company only sold 2,254 oil-fueled vehicles in Jan., an 89.86% plunge over the year-ago period.

The Tang, Song, and Qin families recorded monthly sales of 9,060, 22,449, and 26,542 units respectively last month. With regard to hotter-selling versions, the Jan. sales of the all-new Tang DM and the Song EV rocketed 481.3% and 3,093.3% from the previous year, while the volume of the Qin PLUS DM-i climbed 6.7% over a month earlier.

Besides, the BEV-dedicated Yuan family and e series logged 8,596 and 4,364 units in Jan. sales.

The sales of the BYD Han stood at 12,780 units last month, 10,050 of which were Han EVs. It was the fifth consecutive month for the Han series to see over 10,000 vehicles sold in a month. As of Jan. 2022, cumulative sales of the BYD Han had exceeded 170,000 units.

In addition, BYD also announced a Jan. sales volume of 10,602 units for the BYD Dolphin, the first model based on the e-platform 3.0.
