GAC Group logs 32.25% year-on-year drop in Aug. sales

Shanghai (ZXZC)- GAC Group's auto sales reached 122,366 units in August, slumping 32.25% year on year, according to the company's latest sales results. Due to the two-digit drop in monthly sales, the increase in the year-to-date sale volume narrowed to 11.8%.

The Guangzhou-based automaker saw its outputs dip 29.42% to 117,379 vehicles last month, which resulted in 1,282,554 units (+10% YoY) in Jan.-Aug. production volume.

Most subsidiaries recorded double-digit decline in Aug. sales. GAC Honda outsold the other subsidiaries with a sales volume of 44,642 units. GAC Toyota also sold over 40,000 new vehicles, while suffered a 36.09% year-on-year drop.

The other two Sino-Japanese joint ventures, GAC Mitsubishi and GAC Hino, posted year-over-year decrease of 12.71% and 83.67% in Aug. sales respectively. The sales volume of GAC Hino failed to exceed 100 units.

GAC Motor, GAC Group's self-owned PV subsidiary, witnessed its Aug. wholesales tumble 31.45% to 18,035 units. However, its deliveries jumped 12.7% to 29,965 units last month. Notably, the company received 15,366 orders of the EMPOW sedan, whose presale kicked off in mid-June.

In August, GAC Group sold 12,812 new energy passenger vehicles, 11,619 units of which were sold by GAC AION. The NEV-focused subsidiary scored a robust year-on-year sales growth of 87.1%. As for specific models, the Aug. sales of the AION S and the AION Y stood at 5,238 and 4,124 units.

With respect to the hotter-selling models for the whole group, there were three models recording Aug. sales of more than 10,000 units, namely, the Accord series (14,401 units), the Vezel (11,432 units), and the Camry (10,711 units).
