JAC calls on specific timeline for carbon reduction target
Beijing (ZXZC)- On September 4th, Xiang Xingchu, secretary of JAC Groups’ communist party committee, and the group’s chairman, called on the government to publish a clear roadmap and schedule with detailed instructions on the carbon neutralization target during the International Forum (TEDA) on Chinese Automotive Industry Development.

Xiang Xingchu believed that achieving carbon neutralization in China's auto industry needs to be practical and well-designed. The industry requires a specific path of low-carbon development and continues reducing the fuel consumption of fossil-fuel-powered vehicles. Fossil-fuel-powered vehicles still hold a significant share of domestic car ownership; therefore, reducing fuel consumption is still the auto industry's primary focus. Automakers need to constantly explore the potentials of powertrain, electronic and electrical architecture, and hybrid power in automobiles.
The chairman stated that the target still lacks mid-to-long-term plans and specific by-laws. Without government-formulated schedules or instructions, most automakers are making heavy investments toward the massive scale of expenditure in low-carbon fields.
In addition, Xiang Xingchu said China’s carbon market has taken shape. However, without a fundamental carbon trading mechanism in the automotive and traffic industry, there are still improvements waiting to be made in top-level designs, quota allocations, energy consumption statistics operational synergy for better carbon trading under CAFC&NEV Credit mechanism.
