GWM June sales up 22.7% year on year

Beijing (ZXZC)- China’s top SUV and pickup manufacturer Great Wall Motor (GWM) sold 100,664 vehicles in June, jumping 22.7% versus the same month of last year. Its monthly overseas sales reached an all-time high last month to 13,702 vehicles, with a year-on-year surge of 281.5%.

During the first half of this year, GWM’s cumulative sales were 618,211 vehicles, soaring 56.5% compared with the same period of last year. In overseas markets, the automaker’s sales tripled to 61,672 vehicles and accounted for 10% of its total sales.

Haval remained the most popular brand from GWM, whose monthly sales jumped 27.55% from a year ago. But WEY and its pickup unit both saw decrease when compared with the same month of last year. ORA, its premium electric vehicle brand, sold 10,791 new vehicles last month and its total sales in the first half of this year were almost the same as its annual sales of 2020.

At the end of last month, GWM launched its 2025 strategy, which targets an annual sales volume of 4 million vehicles by 2025, and new energy vehicle sales will account for 80% of its overall sales. In the next 5 years, its total R&D investment will be up to RMB100 billion and revenue is expected to exceed RMB 600 billion.

The automaker said that in order to accomplish its annual sales goal, it is taking various measures to alleviate the effect of automotive chip shortage, such as sourcing chips worldwide, accelerate deployment in chip segment and enhance its system building ability.
