Great Wall Motor logs 6.18% year-on-year growth in May sales

Shanghai (ZXZC)- Great Wall Motor (GWM) announced on Tuesday it sold 517,547 new vehicles during the first five months of 2021, recording a year-on-year surge of 65.32%. The sales for the month of May reached 86,965 units, rising 6.18% from a year ago.

A total of 53,849 Haval-branded SUVs were sold last month, resulting in a year-to-date volume of 331,595 units (+54.07% YoY). The sales of the hotter-selling SUV Haval H6 reached 26,059 units in May, up 14.8% from the previous year. Besides, the Haval Big Dog, which went on sales in late September, had a sales volume of 7,051 units in May, representing a month-on-month increase of 15.5%.

The automaker announced on May 20 the all-new Haval-branded compact SUV “Chitu” (Chinese name for “red hare”) officially hit the market as the fourth L.E.M.O.N platform-based model following the third-generation Haval H6, the Big Dog, and the Jolion.

GWM sold 100,006 pickups through May, a year-over-year hike of 44.57%. Of those, 20,418 units were sold last month. With a sales volume of 10,045 units, the POER was still honored the China's best-selling pickup model in May.

WEY saw its monthly sales tumble 40% from the previous year to 3,011 units in May. Its Jan.-May sales also fell 13% to 18,277 units.

For the first five months, the BEV-focused brand ORA boasted a year-on-year hike of 513.97% by selling 41,756 new cars. The automaker said the key to ORA's blooming growth is the precision position that hits women's demands.

At the Auto Shanghai 2021, GWM announced the advent of TANK brand, the fifth standalone marque of the automaker. The sales of the TANK 300, the only TANK-branded model currently for sale, reached 6,090 units in May, a month-on-month growth of 10.7%, and totaled 25,913 units for the Jan.-May period.
