China auto sales climb 8.6% YoY in Apr. 2021

Shanghai (ZXZC)- China auto outputs and sales reached 2.234 million and 2.252 million units in April 2021, growing 6.3% and 8.6% respectively from a year earlier, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

As of April 2021, China's monthly outputs and sales had risen year over year for thirteen consecutive months.

For the first four months of 2021, China auto production and sales volumes amounted to 8.586 million and 8.748 million units respectively, surging 53.4% and 51.8% over the previous year, while also edging up 2.1% and 4.5% compared to the same period in 2019.

PV sales in April reached 1.704 million units, growing 10.8% from a year earlier, while dropping 9.1% from a month earlier. To be specific, the car, the SUV, the MPV and the minibus segments all scored year-on-year increase. However, compared to March, only minibus sales showed upward movement.

As for year-to-date performance, PV sales totaled 6.791 million units in China, zooming up 53.1% over the year-ago period, while edging down 0.9% compared to the corresponding period in 2019. Notably, the car, the SUV and the MPV units all recorded year-over-year leap of over 50% in Jan.-Apr. sales.

Besides, the sales of locally-produced luxury vehicles jumped 22.4% over a year ago to roughly 287,000 units, resulting in 1.127 million units (+71.8% YoY) for the Jan.-Apr. volume.

CV sales reached around 548,000 units in April, inching up 2.3% year on year, versus the 68.1% increase in the March sales. Truck sales ticked up 0.7% to 501,000 units last month, hitting the best-ever April volume as both heavy-duty and light-duty truck segments achieved their highest-ever monthly sales for April.

In the Jan.-Apr. period, automakers in China exported roughly 516,000 vehicles (+88.1% YoY) in total, including 396,000 PVs (+89.3% YoY) and 120,000 CVs (+84.3% YoY).
