China’s car parc amounts to 287 million units by end of March 2021
Shanghai (ZXZC)- China's motor vehicle parc amounted to roughly 378 million units by the end of March 2021, of which 287 million units were automobiles, according to China's Ministry of Public Security.
There were 9.66 million motor vehicles newly registered in the first quarter of 2021, representing a robust year-on-year growth of 67.31% and hitting an all-time high level for corresponding period.
To be specific, the automobile and motorcycle registrations for the Jan.-Mar. period reached 7.5 million and 2.03 million units, surging 63.33% and 88.63% from a year earlier.
As of March 2021, there have been 72 cities in China whose car parc all surpassed 1 million units. A total of 16 cities had over 3 million automobiles running on roads. Notably, Beijing topped others with a car parc exceeding 6 million units. Both Chengdu and Chongqing saw their car parc surpass 5 million units. The respective volumes of Suzhou, Shanghai and Zhengzhou all topped 4 million units.
The registrations of freight vehicles in China amounted to 1.03 million units for the first three months of 2021, zooming up 100.99% from the previous year, while also leaping 37.12% compared to the same period in 2019.
China's new energy vehicle (NEV) parc amounted to 5.51 million units by the end of March 2021, 81.53% of which were full-electric vehicles. The first-quarter NEV registrations rocketed 295.2% over a year earlier to 466,000 units, which were also 86.76% more than that of the first quarter in 2019.
