The Guangzhou-based automaker delivered a total of 2,223 new EVs in February 2021, representing a month-on-month decrease of 63%. The company said this was an anticipated seasonal decline due to the slowdown in the week-long Chinese New Year holiday. As sales and delivery activities resumed after the holiday, XPeng is witnessing robust customer demands.
The EV manufacturer saw its annual deliveries surge 112.5% to 27,041 units in 2020, according to the company’s latest financial results. Notably, the deliveries in the fourth quarter, 2020 soared 302.9% year on year to 12,964 units, a highest quarterly number the company ever achieved.
With the rapid growth in deliveries, XPeng is striving to ramp up its production capacity. According to He Xiaopeng, Co-founder, Chairman and CEO of XPeng, the company has completed the upgrade of the assembly lines at its Zhaoqing plant, which targets an annual capacity of 10,000 units this year. Besides, XPeng has started the construction of its Guangzhou manufacturing base, which is anticipated to go into production in the third quarter next year.
XPeng plans to launch its third mass-produced model in the second quarter of 2021, and expects to start delivery in this year’s fourth quarter.
Moreover, the startup is ready to begin delivering the P7 Wing edition, which made its debut at the Auto Guangzhou 2020 in last November, later this month. Unveiled in early March, the LFP (lithium iron phosphate) battery-powered G3 SUVs and P7 sedans will go into delivery from April and May this year, said He Xiaopeng.
