Geely Auto achieves 2020’s sales target

Geely Automobile Holdings Limited (called “Geely Auto” for short) and its subsidiaries sold a total of 1,320,217 new vehicles last year, a decrease of roughly 3% from the year-ago period and in line with the 1.32 million-unit sales target set for 2020.

For the month of December 2020, the group (Geely Auto and its subsidiaries) saw its sales volume jump around 19% from a year earlier to 154,202 units. Of those 7,171 units were new energy and electrified vehicles (NEVs), including the the Geometry As, the Emgrand EV and the Emgrand GSes, representing a month-on-month growth of 5%.

Geely-backed digital technology company established in Chongqing

China Geely Holding recently set up a new digital technology subsidiary that engages in the development of AI-enabled application software and blockchain technology.

The new company, dubbed Guangyu Mingdao Digital Technology Co.,Ltd., was founded on Dec. 18 and is located in Chongqing, according to the corporate data platform Tianyancha. Involving a registered capital of 100 million yuan ($15.31 million), it is held as to 55% of Ningbo Geely Automobile Research and Development Co.,Ltd. and 45% by Hangzhou Puzhao Technology Co.,Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Geely Technology Group. The newborn subsidiary will primarily work on the development of blockchain tech-related software, AI-enabled application and basic software as well as AI theory and algorithm software.

Geely Holding’s CFO Li Donghui becomes its CEO

Daniel Li Donghui has become the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (called Geely Holding or the Group for short), while An Conghui has served as the president of Geely Holding and the CEO & president of Geely Auto Group, according to a posting Geely Holding released via its WeChat account on Dec. 1.

Mr. Li was appointed an executive vice president and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Geely Holding in June 2016, a board member of Geely Holding in April 2011, and a member of the board of directors of Volvo Car Corporation in April 2012.

Geely Technology Group to launch battery swapping station at Chongqing highway rest spots

On Nov. 18, Geely Technology Group inked an agreement with Chongqing Expressway, a Chongqing-based state-run company engaging in expressway businesses, for a strategic cooperation on deploying battery swapping facilities in highway service plazas.

Chongqing Expressway said in a posting on its WeChat account both parties will jointly advance the cooperation on the exhibition, sale and after-sales service of Geely's vehicles models, team up on building and operating EV charging & battery swapping facilities, and constructing platforms for EV charging & battery swapping network, so as to help drivers shake off range anxiety in long-distance travels.

Geely’s CV unit to buy 116.3 mln shares issued by Hualing Xingma

Geely Commercial Vehicles Group (GCV) is about to acquire not more than 116.3 million A shares launched by the truck manufacturer Hualing Xingma through a non-public issuance, as part of efforts to strengthen Geely’s offensive in CV area.

GCV will purchase those shares at a consideration of up to 695.474 million yuan ($104.977 million), Hualing Xingma announced on Nov. 12. The proceeds will be used to supplement working capital or repay bank loans for the truck maker, according to a local media outlet, citing a person from GCV.

Geely Auto’s first CMA-based sedan Xing Rui to go on sale on Nov. 1

The Xing Rui, Geely Auto's first sedan model based on Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), will hit the market on November 1, according to a posting on Geely Auto's WeChat account.

The Xing Rui measures 4,785mm x 1,869mm x 1,469mm with a wheelbase spanning 2,800mm, making it one of biggest, most spacious vehicles of the same segment.

Geely Holding, China Mobile to team up on 5G intelligent car, autonomous driving

China Mobile, a Chinese state-owned telecommunications operator, and Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (Geely Holding) entered into an agreement on Oct. 26 to carry out strategic cooperation in a number of fields including auto-related intelligent connectivity and autonomous driving.

Under the agreement, both parties will conduct in-depth collaboration in such areas as 5G-enabled auto-related intelligent connectivity, autonomous driving, mobility service, low-orbit satellite communications, smart city, Industrial Internet, Home Internet, big data, AI, resource sharing as well as basic telecom services.

Mobileye and Geely to Offer Most Robust Driver Assistance Features

Geely Auto Group, the largest privately held auto manufacturer in China, unveiled the highly anticipated premium electric vehicle (EV) Zero Concept from Lynk & Co – a brand under Geely Auto Group – at a Lynk & Co brand event held in conjunction with the Beijing Auto Show. The new Zero Concept EV will feature Lynk & Co.’s CoPilot solution powered by Mobileye’s SuperVision surround-view advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) with over-the-air (OTA) update capabilities.

Utilizing Mobileye’s proven, production-ready SuperVision system based on Mobileye’s leading EyeQ5 SoC alongside Geely’s accelerated production capabilities will enable Geely Auto Group to deliver a new suite of advanced driver assist features to consumers beginning in fall 2021.

Geely Auto files prospectus for Shanghai STAR Market listing

The automaker announced on September 1 that it has filed for the issuance of A shares (or RMB ordinary shares) on the STAR Market to Shanghai Stock Exchange and the latter has confirmed the handling of the application.

According to the prospectus Geely Auto unveiled at the same time, the initial number of RMB shares to be issued shall not exceed 1,731,666,448 shares with par value of HK$0.02 each, representing not more than 15% of Geely Auto's issued share capital.

CATL, Geely’s joint venture to build power battery facility in Yibin, Sichuan province

CATL-Geely Power Battery Co.,Ltd. (CATL-Geely), a joint venture between CATL and Zhejiang Jirun Automobile Company Limited (Zhejiang Jirun), attempts to invest not more than 8 billion yuan ($1,148,484,800) in constructing a power battery facility at Yibin, Sichuan Province, CATL announced on August 11.

Registered on April 3, 2019, CATL-Geely is held as to 51% by CATL, China's largest power battery manufacturer, and 49% by Zhejiang Jirun, whose chairman is An Conghui, President and GEO of Geely Auto Group. It is set up to produce and sell power batteries.

Geely Auto announces CMA Modular Architecture for 4.0 car-building era

At the Chengdu Motor Show 2020, Geely Auto announced that its modular auto architecture is officially named “CMA Modular Architecture” (“Chaoji Muti”, in Chinese), where the models will be based in the “Technology Geely 4.0 Era”. In the future, it will power Geely Holding's products with its leading electrical and electronic architecture and exceptional features of safety, performance, intelligence and styling.

“In the 4.0 comprehensive architecture car-building era, we will use a modular way to cope with all of the functions required by building a car instead of treating a car as an isolated thing, and develop a complete car manufacturing ecosystem based on a world-class modular architecture,” said Feng Qingfeng, vice president of Geely Auto Group.

Geely’s all-new mid-sized SUV Haoyue goes on sales with price starting at 103,600 yuan

Geely's all-new SUV "Haoyue" hit the market on June 23 with its price range—103,600 yuan ($14,667) to 139,600 yuan ($19,764)—announced at the same time.

The measurement of 4,835mm*1,900mm*1,780mm and a wheelbase of 2,815mm put the Haoyue squarely in the mid-sized SUV segment, making it similarly sized to the Toyota Highlander and the Ford Edge. It has a ground clearance of 190mm, which offers the vehicle an ability to adjust itself to various Chinese-spec road conditions.

Geely’s all-electric BEV Geometry C priced from 139,800 yuan for presale

The Geometry C, the second mass-produced and first SUV model of Geely's BEV brand Geometry, made its debut at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) International Auto Show 2020 and is set to hit the market in the third quarter. The presale price starting at 139,800 yuan ($19,754) was announced at the same time.

The new SUV is fitted with an electric motor developed by Nidec, which is good for 150kW and 310 N·m. Powering the vehicle is a CATL-made lithium-ion battery pack with an energy density of 160.28Wh/kg or 183.23Wh/kg, enabling a NEDC-rated range of 400km and 550km.

Geely's young brand launches entry-level SUV Lynk & Co 06

On June 16, Lynk & Co, a Chinese-Swedish auto brand owned by Geely Auto Group, officially launched its all-new compact SUV—the Lynk & Co 06. As you have known that the digits in the name have no correlation with the vehicle's size, the 06 is the smallest one in Lynk & Co's SUV range.

Measuring 4,340mm long, 1,820mm wide and 1,625mm tall and having a wheelbase of 2,540mm, it is shorter than both the 01 (4,512mm) and the 02 (4,448mm), putting it in the league of entry-level SUV.

Geely Auto makes new models 100% comply with China 6b emission standards

Chinese domestic carmaker Geely Auto announced the new models of its entire product lineup have been replaced with the vehicles that meet the “China 6b”, the strictest-ever emission standard which are supposed to be implemented from July 1, 2023 as per the state's request.

Geely’s BMA-based ICON hit the market with price starting RMB115,800

Geely ICON, Geely Auto's second BMA (B-segment Modular Architecture)-based SUV, will officially hit the market on Feb. 24 through a live-streaming platform, the automaker announced via its WeChat account. Offered in four variants in total, the ICON is priced between RMB115,800 and RMB128,800.

The new model was supposed to go on sale on the Valentine's Day at the Tennis court in Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center, while the ceremony had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Volvo Cars, Geely Auto seek business combination for a strong global group

Volvo Cars and Geely Automobile Holdings Limited (Geely Auto) are considering integrating their businesses to form a strong global auto group, which is expected to improve the efficiency of financial and technological synergies between two companies, both automakers announced on Feb. 10 .

The considered combination would preserve the unique identity of the brands including Volvo, Geely, Lynk & Co and Polestar, two companies said. Besides, the restructured group would get access to the global capital business through going public in Hong Kong, and is intended to be listed in Stockholm subsequently.

Mercedes-Benz, Geely Holding formally establishes global joint venture “smart Automobile Co., Ltd.” for the smart Brand

Mercedes-Benz AG (Mercedes-Benz) and Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (Geely Holding), the German and Chinese automotive groups, announced on Jan. 8 that they have formally established the global joint venture “smart Automobile Co., Ltd.” for the smart brand after receiving the regulatory approvals.

The total registered capital of the Joint Venture will be 5.4 billion RMB to transform smart into a leading player in premium-and intelligent electrified vehicles. Both parties will equally contribute 2.7 billion RMB, the share of Mercedes-Benz AG will be mainly covered by the contribution of the smart brand. The global headquarters of the new joint venture has been set in Hangzhou Bay, Ningbo with operational sales functions based in China and Germany.
