First model co-developed by Changan, Huawei, CATL said to be launched in 2021

Shanghai (ZXZC)- The first model under the upscale intelligent car brand jointly developed by Changan Auto, Huawei and CATL is expected to make its debut in 2021, according to a local media outlet.

The yet-to-be-launched model is said to be a mid-sized all-electric SUV and will be internally code-named “E11”. In all likelihood, the new model will ride on the EMP2 (efficient modular platform).

Zhu Huarong, chairman of Changan Auto, said in Nov. the Chongqing-based automaker would work with Huawei and CATL on developing a fire new premium auto brand. They will team up on the development of a world-leading independent and controllable smart electric vehicle (EV) platform, a slew of car-related products as well as a smart lifestyle and energy ecosystem that targets the connectivity of users, vehicles and home appliances.

“We will make joint efforts to strengthen made-in-China products and technologies, and offer users better travelling experience with our intelligent mobility solutions,” said Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group.

The “E11” SUV is likely to carry Changan's newly developed car body. Boasting composite materials like carbon fiber and aluminium alloy, the car body would endow the model with greater performance in safety and lightweight, according to the local media channel.

Changan Auto is recruiting suppliers of manipulators for the “E11” project.

SAIC Motor is forging ahead with its premium EV project “Zhiji Motor” as well. The company last week announced the registration of Zhiji Motor Technology Co.,Ltd., the joint venture among SAIC Motor, Shanghai Zhangjiang Hi-tech Park Development Co.,Ltd. and Alibaba Group, only one month after the brand was unveiled.
