SAIC’s R brand to announce tech brand ‘R-TECH’ in Jan. 2021

Shanghai (ZXZC)- The “R” brand, a high-end full-electric vehicle (BEV) marque of SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle Company, will launch next month a fire new technology brand dubbed “R-TECH”, according to a local media outlet.

The soon-to-be-launched tech brand will reportedly encompass cutting-edge technologies related to smart driving, intelligent cockpit, battery, electric motor, ECU (electronic control unit), and other fields.

At the Auto Guangzhou 2020, some technologies under R-TECH were unveiled, including the advanced driver assistance system “R PILOT” and intelligent cockpit. The “R PILOT” features Level 3.0 autonomous driving capabilities by virtue of a multi-layered perception system where sensors, high-definition cameras and millimeter-wave radars are reasonably deployed.

The smart cockpit of “R” vehicles will apply such intelligent applications as MR (Mixed reality) driver assistant, voice-controlled driving system, home-to-car connected application and OTA upgrade.

The R-TECH's technologies will be introduced into the MARVEL R first, the first mass-produced flagship SUV of R brand.

SAIC Motor and the government of Pudong New Area formed a strategic cooperation on Nov. 26 for the joint development of Zhiji Motor, a fire new premium intelligent BEV brand, with the project being launched at the same time.

According to SAIC Motor, the “Zhiji Motor” project is co-developed by SAIC Motor, Pudong New Area and the e-commerce giant Alibaba Group. It raised over 10 billion yuan ($1.528 billion) in its initial round of financing prior to its official launch.

As a user-centric technology and innovation company, Zhiji Motor is dedicated to becoming “a fulfiller of the travelling revolution in intelligence era”, and will go all out to explore the SDV (software-defined vehicle) ecosystem and achieve win-win outcomes for both users and companies' values.
