The vehicles to be recalled were manufactured between March 16, 2016 and July 31, 2016. According to the SAMR, the roof panels of the cars recalled is likely to fall off in some extreme situations due to the shortage of primer coating, which will increase the risk of rear-end collision or injury.

The automaker promised to test the tensile strength of the vehicles recalled free of charge, while advising users to drive carefully before their cars are fixed. If the cars fail to pass the test, Tesla will replace the roof panel to remove safety accident hazards.

This was the second-time recall Tesla's China branch launched this year. The SAMR announced on Oct. 23 Tesla's Beijing subsidiary would recall a total of 29,193 imported Model Ss and Model Xs produced between Sept. 17, 2013 and Aug. 16, 2017 due to technical issues that impose safety risks.

To remove the safety risks, Tesla would replace the rear linkages of the left & right front suspension of the upper linkages of the left & right rear suspension with the improved parts for the vehicles recalled. The replacement would be made for free.

The EV manufacturer has made its Model 3, its only China-made model currently for sale, the best-selling all-electric model in China. According to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), the retail sales of the homegrown Model 3 totaled 92,051 units for the first ten months of 2020, 47,775 units more than that of the runner-up Aion S.
