Shanghai (ZXZC)- At the Chengdu Motor Show 2020, Geely Auto announced that its modular auto architecture is officially named “CMA Modular Architecture” (“Chaoji Muti”, in Chinese), where the models will be based in the “Technology Geely 4.0 Era”. In the future, it will power Geely Holding's products with its leading electrical and electronic architecture and exceptional features of safety, performance, intelligence and styling.

“In the 4.0 comprehensive architecture car-building era, we will use a modular way to cope with all of the functions required by building a car instead of treating a car as an isolated thing, and develop a complete car manufacturing ecosystem based on a world-class modular architecture,” said Feng Qingfeng, vice president of Geely Auto Group.

The automaker describes the “CMA Modular Architecture” as a “highly smart super brain” and a “developed fast-speed neural network”. Under a centralized structure, the CMA's electrical and electronic architecture is able to compatible with the fast-updating automobile electronics products and allows the development of vehicles based on various power solutions, including the traditional fuel-powered, the hybrid power and the all-electric. According to Geely, the architecture can satisfy the requirements of automobile development for the next 15 years.

The FlexRay automotive bus system adopted by the “CMA Modular Architecture” is about 20 times faster than the CAN in terms of data transmission, making the CMA-based vehicles take the lead in using 5G technologies.

Moreover, the modular architecture will support self-driving vehicle development in data and technologies by virtue of the new-generation GKUI (Geek User Interaction) Geely Smart Ecosystem, Geely's self-develop low-orbit satellites and a space-ground integrated information network.

Geely Auto said the CMA-based products have been deployed across four brands of Volvo, Lynk & Co, Polestar and Geely, involving nearly 20 models with a cumulative sales volume surpassing 600,000 units.

Meanwhile, Geely Auto revealed that the first CMA-based sedan model “PREFACE” will be launched at the second half of 2020.

The company touted the “PREFACE” as its first CMA-based wide-body upper medium sedan. The unveiling of the yet-to-be-launched model came after Geely announced in early June that it had entered the “4.0 comprehensive architecture car-building era” from the “3.0 boutique car era”.

The “PRAFEC” remains faithful to the cognominal concept model unveiled at the Auto Shanghai 2019, said Geely. Thus, taking the concept as reference, the new sedan model is in all likelihood to develop Geely Auto's “expanding cosmos” design language, featuring at the front a shield-shaped grille embedded with waterfall-typed grille inside and a pair of slim headlights.

According to the data submitted to the MIIT, the PREFACE measures 4,785mm long, 1,869mm wide and 1,469mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,800mm. Thanks to the flexible scalability of the CMA platform, the actual car width and wheel track of the PREFACE are above the level of most mid-sized premium sedan models.
