Shanghai (ZXZC)- FAW-Volkswagen, a joint venture between China's FAW Group and Volkswagen Group, announced on May 11 an evident growth in April retail sales.

The automaker said its auto deliveries in April amounted to 165,714 units (including the sales of imported vehicles), growing 9.9% year on year and surging 41% month on month. The volume also made FAW-VW honored the champion in China by April PV retail sales.

Volkswagen is still its best-selling brand. Last month, 96,318 consumers in China took delivery of the Volkswagen-branded vehicles, a robust growth of 42.5% compared to March. Besides, the deliveries of Audi and Jetta brands reached 55,888 units and 13,508 units, soaring 38% and 45.2% from a month ago.

Notably, Audi brand recorded the smallest increase in part because of a relatively high volume achieved in March. The premium brand delivered 40,448 units (including imported vehicles) a month earlier.

Supported by FAW-VW's technical merits, the affordable Jetta brand is trying to improve its brand familiarity by adopting online marketing models like live-streaming and short-form videos.

For the first four months, the joint venture's cumulative deliveries amounted to 433,414 units. As the sales badly bruised by the coronavirus spread in February and March, FAW-VW witnessed its first-quarter retail sales slumped 29% from a year earlier to 337,096 units.

The company is ambitious to sell 2.325 million vehicles in 2020—1.425 million units for Volkswagen brand, 700 thousand units for Audi and 200 thousand units for Jetta.
