EV startup Skywell names first model “ET5”
Shanghai (ZXZC)- Skywell, a young all-electric PV brand launched in late 2019, officially announced the name of its first model under the “2+4+N” strategy—“ET5”, which is set to hit the market in the second half of the year.
According to a press release, the “E” and “T” stand for “battery electric vehicle” and “technology” respectively, and the combination of them signifies that the new model serves the carrier of communication between the brand and consumers, and take on the mission of branding.
The “5” is the product's serial sequence. The company said it will name models based on sizes and types—even numbers (2, 4, 6 and 8) are for sedans and odd numbers (1, 3, 5 and 7) belong to SUVs. Thus, the “ET5” is positioned as a mid-sized SUV.
Let's take a look at the forthcoming model. The inverted trapezoidal grille seamlessly connected with headlights is somewhat unmistakable. The L-shaped daytime running lights and sculptural fog lights elicit quite a sporty sense. According to the automaker, all variants will come standard with matrix LED headlights.
Moving to the rear end, the taillight cluster stretching across the tailgate is rather popular for modern design. The logo “SKYWELL” may impress you when lit at light.
As for the side profile, a character line extending from the front wing to the rear accentuates the vehicle’s length and creates an image of swoop even when still.
The black is the chief color used indoors. The T-shaped cockpit features a wraparound design with a three-spoke multifunctional steering wheel, a 12.3-inch fully LCD digital dashboard, a 12.8-inch LCD console-mounted display and a rotary gear lever, trying to render a futuristic sense. Besides, the vehicle will be outfitted with the “Skylink” intelligent-connected system jointly developed with the leading television brand Skyworth, in a bid to offer abundant video resources to users.
The ET5 measures 4,700mm long with a wheelbase spanning 2,800mm. NEDC-rated range is about 500km.
Jiangsu Skywell Automobile Co.,Ltd, the operator behind Skywell, is wholly-owned by the Chinese NEV manufacturer Sky-well New Energy Automobile Group Co. Ltd., according to the business date platform Tianyancha. Its legal representative Huang Hongsheng is also the founder of Skyworth.
In accordance with the “2+4+N” strategy, over the next five years, Skywell plans to roll out four all-new models based on two platforms—the “BE” platform targets affordable BEV models and the “CE” will be available to mid- & full-sized models in higher position, and launch several intelligent technologies (photo source: Skywell's WeChat account).
