BYD launches Seal 06 GT hatchback to target younger demographic
BYD has launched the Seal 06 GT with a starting price of RMB 136,800 ($19,260), calling it the first GT (Grand Tourer) model for young people.
BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) today formally launched the Seal 06 GT hatchback to cater to the preferences of a younger demographic.
The model -- a production version of the Ocean-M concept unveiled at the Beijing auto show in late April -- is the latest addition to BYD's Ocean range.
The Seal 06 GT starts at RMB 136,800 ($19,260) to RMB 186,800, lower than the RMB 150,000 to RMB 200,000 range it was priced in when pre-sales began on August 30.
The Seal 06 GT is based on BYD's latest all-electric platform, the e-Platform 3.0 Evo, and is the first GT (Grand Tourer) model for young people, the new energy vehicle (NEV) maker said.
BYD is offering four variants of the Seal 06 GT at a starting price of RMB 136,800, RMB 146,800, RMB 162,800 and RMB 186,800.
It measures 4,630 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width and 1,490 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.
The highest priced variant of the model is a dual-motor four-wheel drive version, while all other variants are single-motor rear-wheel drive versions.
The two lowest-priced variants are powered by a rear motor with a peak power of 160 kW and a peak torque of 310 Nm, and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds.
The other single-motor version has a motor with 165 kW of peak power and 330 Nm of peak torque, and can also accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds.
Its dual-motor version has a combined peak power of 310 kW and peak torque of 510 Nm from its two motors and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.9 seconds.
The two least expensive variants of the Seal 06 GT are powered by a blade battery pack based on lithium iron phosphate chemistry with a capacity of 59.52 kWh and a CLTC range of 505 kilometers.
The other two variants both carry blade batteries with a capacity of 72.96 kWh and a CLTC range of 605 km and 550 km respectively.
The car supports fast charging and can be charged from 30 percent to 80 percent in 20-22 minutes.
The Seal 06 GT comes with DiPilot intelligent driving assistance system that supports L2 assisted driving.
The BYD brand's models are categorized into the Ocean series and Dynasty series, with the former named mainly after marine creatures and ships, and the latter named mainly after Chinese historical dynasties.
The Ocean series sold 194,099 vehicles in September, up 38.8 percent year-on-year and up 10.98 percent from August, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
In the January-September period, BYD's Ocean series sold 1,263,442 vehicles, up 56.24 percent year-on-year.
Since November 2021, cumulative sales of the Ocean Series have exceeded 3.4 million units, BYD said today.
