Shanghai (ZXZC)- On Feb. 24, Changan Automobile formally announced the Chinese name of its all-new “UNI” series—“Yinli”, meaning “gravity”. Positioned as a compact SUV, the series' first model UNI-T will be showcased at the 2020 Geneva International Motor Show next month.
According to the photos posted on Changan's WeChat account, the UNI-T adopts a massive inverted trapezoidal grille embedded with numerous rhomboid white pieces, creating an image of a “borderless” grille perfectly integrated into the front end. The unmistakable essence is further highlighted by the S-shaped split-type headlights.
As for the side profile, the dynamic aesthetics is emphasized by the roof that swoops from the B-pillar to the ducktail spoiler and a pair of powerful waistlines. The UNI-T also features two-tone body, “hidden” door handles and multi-spoke rims, which are offered to cater to youngsters.
At the rear, the tridimensional LED taillights and the exhaust layout with dual stacks of pipes on each side are rather eye-catching.
The compact SUV measures 4,515 mm long, 1,870mm wide and 1,565mm tall. Wheelbase spans 2,710mm. According to the information submitted to the MIIT, the UNI-T offers tires in three sizes including 225/60 R17, 225/55 R19 and 245/45 R20.
Powering the new SUV will be a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that is good for 132kW, marrying a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. In addition, Changan's Blue Whale 2.0T engine is expected to be introduced into the UNI-T.
The battle against the coronavirus prompts automakers to more highlight the breath quality of drivers and passengers. Changan Automobile is one of them. It said the intelligent health management system the UNI-T carries is able to filter out particulate matters with an aerodynamic diameter of over 0.1 µm (phoro source: Changan Automobile's WeChat account).
