A fire at the plant of one of Zeekr‘s second-tier suppliers briefly affected the supply of Zeekr 7X parts, and the supplier has resumed full production.

Production of Zeekr’s (NYSE: ZK) new 7X SUV (sport utility vehicle) was briefly impacted by a fire at a supplier, which may have slowed deliveries of the model.

A fire at the plant of one of the electric vehicle (EV) maker’s second-tier suppliers affected the parts supply, Zeekr vice president Zhu Ling said on October 12 on Weibo.

The plant is not a Zeekr facility, and no one was injured in the fire, he said.

Zeekr has assisted the supplier in fully resuming normal production, Zhu said, adding that the company’s factory in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, is operating at full capacity.

The impact of the supplier’s fire is likely to be reflected in the much-watched weekly EV insurance registration numbers.

Zeekr (NYSE: ZK) saw 3,700 insurance registrations for the week ended October 6, down 36.21 percent from 5,800 the previous week, according to figures shared by Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) last week.

Separately, according to Deutsche Bank’s monitoring, the Zeekr 7X had insurance registrations of 1,460 vehicles for the week of October 6, down 34 percent from 2,200 the previous week.

Zeekr launched the Zeekr 7X, its second model for the mainstream EV market, on September 20, with deliveries beginning on September 21.

The Zeekr 7X surpassed 6,000 locked-in orders in the first 24 hours after launch, and delivered more than 5,000 units in the 10 days after deliveries began, Zeekr previously said.

As of October 7, firm orders for the Zeekr 7X had surpassed 20,000 units, with deliveries expected to exceed 10,000 units in the first full delivery month, according to an October 8 statement shared with CnEVPost.

Zeekr delivered 21,333 vehicles in September, surpassing June’s previous record of 20,106 vehicles for a record high and marking the second month over the 20,000 mark.

In the January-September period, Zeekr delivered 142,873 vehicles, a year-on-year growth of 80.79 percent. It is targeting to deliver 230,000 vehicles in the full year 2024, double the 2023 figure.
