Tesla’s exports of China-made cars exceed 1 million units
Shanghai (ZXZC)- On September 28, 2024, Tesla marked a significant milestone as the one millionth China-made Tesla electric vehicle rolled off the production line at its Gigafactory Shanghai. This milestone coincided with the shipment of this batch of Model 3 vehicles, which set sail for the UK from the nearby Shanghai Nanqiao Port, bringing the total exports of Chinese-made Tesla cars to over one million units.

The journey began in October 2020, when the first batch of 7,000 China-made Model 3s was exported to Europe. This rapid transition from market launch in China to international export in under a year showcased not only "China speed" but also "China quality" to the world. Over the subsequent four years, the Shanghai Gigafactory has supplied Model 3 and Model Y vehicles to various markets across Europe and the Asia-Pacific region.
The Shanghai Gigafactory is a crucial hub for Tesla's global exports and production, with products reaching multiple markets worldwide. It is entirely designed by Tesla and integrates the four main manufacturing processes—stamping, welding, painting, and final assembly—“under one roof”, achieving an impressive output of a vehicle every 30 seconds. The localization rate for components exceeds 95%.
Additionally, Tesla revealed that its Megafactory in Shanghai's Lin-gang Special Area is progressing rapidly, with over 60% of the main factory structure completed as of the end of September. The facility is expected to begin production in the first quarter of next year.
